This week’s M.O.T.W. is Esteban Montero. Born in 1968, the Bagaces native practically grew up on a horse. Montero, who describes himself as the “John Wayne of Guanacaste,” claims to have participated in every tope on the Nicoya Peninsula since 1971.
When not drunkenly clinging to the reins, Esteban earns a living as a rodeo clown. He and his six brothers currently live in Liberia with their mother.
